Thiourea is an organic sulfur-containing compound with a chemical formula of CH4N2S. It is a white and shiny crystal with a bitter taste, a density of 1.41g/cm³, and a melting point of 176-178°C. It is used as a raw material for the manufacture of medicines, dyes, resins, compression molding powder, etc. It is also used as a vulcanization accelerator for rubber and a flotation agent for metal minerals. It is formed by the action of hydrogen sulfide and lime slurry to form calcium hydrosulfide, and then react with calcium cyanamide. It can also be prepared by melting ammonium thiocyanide, or by reacting cyanamide with hydrogen sulfide.
