Ethyl mercaptan is an organic compound with a chemical formula of C2H6S. It is a colorless transparent liquid, slightly soluble in water, and easily soluble in alkali, ethanol, ether and other organic solvents. It is famous for its strong, long-lasting and pungent garlic odor. It is listed as the most odorous substance in the Guinness Book of World Records along with selenium mercaptan.  When the air contains only 1/50 billion ethanethiol (0.00019mg/L), its odor can be smelled.
